Hello! Welcome to my website and my private lesson studio. I'm Drew Nelson, a local music teacher and musician serving the Champaign Urbana community with 9 years of experience teaching private lessons for mandolin, guitar, bass, ukulele, and trumpet.

I received my education at Georgia Southern University down in Statesboro, Georgia which included 5 years of private lessons with my professor Dr. Kitzinger as well as two years of student teaching, both in elementary and high school.

My love for guitar began as a distraction from my college trumpet courses, then as a way to earn some extra money, and then again to have more opportunity to teach. Finally, after falling in love with local bluegrass jamming culture, it has expanded along with the mandolin to become my primary area of teaching, as well as my own personal study which now includes Rock, Folk, Country, Bluegrass, Jazz, and classical. Due to popular demand I have expanded my recent study to include bass guitar and ukulele as well, in an effort to be able to help all types of pickers and strummers here in Champaign-Urbana. 

I take an individual approach to each of my students, whether that means relying on my formal musical education to prepare young musicians for the rigors of music school, or tapping into my personal gigging and jamming experience to help adult learners show off at their local jam.
